Additional Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (The Ultimate Star Wars Recording)(1999 Film) Information

Obscured by the familiar grandeur of John Williams's score for Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace was the sheer volume of the composer's prodigious musical efforts. Not only did Williams expand on the original Star Wars trilogy's musical language with a whole new range of modern classical inspirations, but his efforts also produced more than two hours of seamless symphonic foundation for the galactic epic, enough wall-to-wall music to power three less ambitious films. This impressively packaged double-disc set offers Williams's complete Episode 1 score for the first time. It's a worthy tribute to the scoring legend's mastery of tone, dynamics, and nuance--a virtual musical tone poem that imparts much of the film's dramaturgy. Divorced from the bombastic visual assault of state-of-the-art digital effects, one is struck by the composition's emotional resonance. It's the small, quiet moments that give the story its subtle, crucial humanity; it's hard to imagine a film conceit so outlandish functioning without it. The Ultimate Edition includes a bonus track of the stirring choral centerpiece, "Duel of the Fates," with an overlaid dialogue montage, as well as a photo-rich booklet that illustrates each of the film's key scenes and musical cues. --Jerry McCulley

What Customers Say About Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (The Ultimate Star Wars Recording)(1999 Film):

Completely unacceptable. BOTH CDs contained tracks with 1 or 2 seconds of static in them. I sent it back for a new one, and the new one ALSO has static in some of the tracks.

That horrible pink noise. Ok let me start with saying something. It's very loud and irritating and in some pretty good tracks too.Your best bet is to buy it somewhere else or download it and risk losing the CD Quality. Why is Amazon selling these defective products. This is exactly how wonderful scores like Star Wars Phantom of the Menace should be released in their entirety. Now I hear there is still a few tracks missing, but this is still worth every freaking cent of your money.Only problem, the same thing reported by other customers.

The Planets was an obvious influence on Williams specifically and all Sci-Fi soundtracks in general. I sent away for the one album version too, to try to cobble together the best of both worlds. That's saying a log considering Empire Strikes Back is probably one of the most personally moving pieces of all time.

Sometimes it does seem like it would be nicer to have some of the tracks combined, as it can feel like the track was skipping. I'll review it eventually. Of course, this is not the case, it just transitioned to the next track and at least on some players that results in a pause. This would easily be 5 stars without the annoyances.

I have all 6 soundtracks of the Star Wars and Phantom Menace is one of the best musically, almost on par with Empire Strikes Back. It's much less noticeable when playing the CD than the ripped wav files.

Another album that I would put in that category is Holst: The Planets. As other reviewers have mentioned there are "pink noise" on the CD in several locations including:Attack of the Giant Fish (:51)Boarding (1:12)Inside Bubble City (1:20)Enter Darth Maul (:35)Anakin's Home (:22)Anakin is free (:55)I ripped it on 3 computers (2 windows, 1 linux) using 3 programs (grip, windows media player, winamp) and all versions consistently had the anomalies.

I actually didn't have a lot of time to listen to it until recently and I also noticed the same "pink" noise that another reviewer mentioned. I bought this set a long time ago and loved it, but it was stolen. Sad to think that probably a bunch of these discs are like this. It only happens a dozen times or so like he mentioned, but it is really annoying when it happens. Then I found it for a great deal here on Amazon so I bought it. I some of the tracks still on my computer, but wanted the complete set once again.

But the glitching (at least 12 different places) is annoying enough to make it not enjoyable. As another reviewer stated this release has several glitched spots on the disc where it suddenly emits a LOUD pink noise. Can't imagine them being this way since the release 9 years ago. It seems they didn't always sell these flawed discs. Bugged me so bad the first time I purchased the CD again. just to discover it's a faulty recording. The music is so good.
